Castillo Sagunto! We had a great day trekking around the town and climbing all over the castle ruins. Even had a picnic on the heights.
Areas of the castle date back as far as 200 B.C. and just below the outer surround are the remnants of a Roman Amphitheater, a Jewish cemetery and tombs dug into the stone of the hillside, plus a small whitewashed hermitage. It is truly a gift to be able to visit these ancient places and imagine the lives of the people who once lived here.
