Do Not Fear

They want you to be scared. To be afraid to go anywhere. To fear the people that don't live in your country. So that you'll continue to take solace in your $450-800 of car payments and your $2000-3500 mortgage and keep spinning the wheel for them. It's safe. It's comfortable. And allows you to keep your buzz and throw that discretionary dollar at something which makes you feel better about the 70 hour grind.
But I just wanna tell you: Most people are good. Kind. They love their kids and want to teach them to be courteous and thoughtful, the way their own parents did. They want to succeed and provide an abundant life for their loved ones. They help their neighbor. They help strangers who stumble and fall on the sidewalk. They let their elders take a seat on the bus.
We meet people every day who fit this description. Immigrants and locals alike. Good people.
Today we met a couple from Venezuela who moved to Europe to be closer ("but not too close") to their kids as they finish university and enter the working world. ...The father of our 8yo's best friend is Panamanian - he met a Spanish woman and moved here to marry her and cares deeply for her son. ...Our middle schoolers have friends from Pakistan, China, Valencia, Uruguay, Mexico, Estonia, and more. Valencianos are proud of their heritage, speak their own language and Castellano, and yet are eager to practice their English, French, German, etc. The Africans and Middle Easterners we meet here speak more languages than anyone else and work hard to provide for themselves and their families. And honestly, in most cases, I don't even know the nationality of most folks until we have a chance to chat. And we have such wonderful conversations. Interesting and engaging conversations about life and what has brought us all to this moment.
Stop being afraid. The world is a beautiful place.
